We did a hop on, hop off bus tour of Berlin on a first day in Berlin – found the cheapest one at just 10 euro per person. We went around twice! Highlights of the tour included stop along Kurfurstendamn for lunch. We found a department store with gourmet section and free samples!
The city was getting ready for the public holiday on Saturday for German unification day so many streets were blocked off. They were bringing in 2 giants (giant puppets on cranes) representing east and west Germany and uniting them at the Brandenburg Gate.
We also did a very interesting walking tour on our last day with a Scandinavian born guide who fell in love with Berlin and has stayed. David was a great story teller.
And then much of our sightseeing was lots of walking and catching public transport. We had sore feet every day!

This square is the sight of Nazi book burning – the memorial is underground and can be viewed through a plaque in the paving and consists of empty shelves. The hording shows how this public building will look – this is quite typical in Berlin where there are a number of buildings being constructed.
