Train to Budapest

We have had a wonderful two nights in Budapest – pity it was not longer. Weather good – cold but clear days.

Dinner the first night in traditional Hungarian restaurant with resident piano player and expressive “mein host” who made recommendations about wine and menu choices. “No, vegetables do not go with cat fish – it needs dumplings!”

Yesterday we did a hop on, hop off bus tour around the city. It included both Buda across the river and Pest. We went around once fully and then stepped off across the river at the Buda Castle. After an ordinary but refreshing afternoon tea, we wound our way down through the narrow streets towards the river and across the Margaret Bridge back into Pest. Our dinner was at a Hungarian fast food outlet.

Our B and B accommodation has been good. The owner is very attentive and has given suggestions of restaurants and things to see but the rooms are very warm with the central heating up too high.

Wonderful food market with vast array of small goods, fruit and vegetables and of course souvenirs from Budapest!
