Away in April 2011

Day 25 – Paris – from Pont De Sevres to the Left Bank

Paris

Monday, 25 April 2011

Easter Monday and public holiday meant large crowds everywhere. Just as well we had a sleep in and later start.

This morning we took the metro to outer Paris and Pont de Sevres station for Musee de Ceramique Sevres. The museum had a wonderful historical collection of both Sevres and international porcelain but a disappointing shop and no factory outlet! The area is also home to Park de St Cloud – a National restoration project of forest and palace grounds that is a favourite site for Parisians picnicking, jogging and and walking. We had half a baguette sitting on a ledge and watched arriving families frolic in the meadow.

Then metro to Cluny Sorbonne and Musee de Cluny, a museum of the middle ages housed in a beautiful old abbey. Lovely collection of mostly religious sculptures, items from churches, stained glass windows and tapestries. Museum was very well done In beautiful setting – lots of lovely white stone and wood.

From the museum we walked along the Left Bank with its stalls of old books, posters, artworks and souvenirs. Continued across to Ile St Louis. Stopped for an expresso and crepe with chocolate and coconut before winding our back to our apartment, stopping whenever the urge took us for a look in a shop or two or three or four.

Later we went out for local dinner at La Therrasse Sainte Catherine – we are becoming very Parisian in our dining! Had mussels with chips whilst Anthony had French version of a mixed grill (lamps chops with piece of chicken and steak with chips) with tomato and feta salad for starters.
