Day 24 – Paris Musee D’Orsay, Rodin and Arc De Triomph

Musee Gare

Sunday, 24 April 2011

Easter Sunday and another big day of sightseeing. Firstly a stroll along the Seine to Musee d’Orsay, a fantastic gallery space and home of French impressionists. Just beautiful but no photography allowed! We did take some surreptitious photos on our iphones but will have to wait till we get home to sync these with my laptop. Compensated by buying a couple of picture books at the museum shop – the charming Ou est mon chat? and French translation of Anthony Browns’s Anna and the Gorilla!

Then onto my favorite museum, Musee Rodin. Another wonderful setting for a fantastic collection.

Lunch at musee Cafe (next to the Rodin museum) with iconic French favourites. Anthony had croque special (croque monsieur is toasted ham and cheese, croque Madame has fried egg on top, whilst croque special has added tomato). I had omelet complete (with tomato, ham, potato and cheese).

More walking to Les Invalides and Musee d’Armie (tomb of Napoleon) and the soldiers church.

Then metro to Arc de Triomphe, Anthony’s personal favourite monument. He climbed to the top for fantastic views of Paris (I was too tired at this stage and chose to people watch and listen instead).

Caught metro to Trocadero for views of the Eiffel tower and disapointing Bateau Parisien Seine Tour (but it was free with our Paris Pass!)

Metro home for shower and load of washing.

Then out to dinner at a small local French home diner – tuna provencale with rice for me and beef with roast potatoes for Anthony, finished with a shared Hungarian cheesecake and two expressos. An American family with two children ate well on coq au vin and beef bougignon!
