Day 27 – Last day in Paris
Paris
Wednesday, 27 April 2011
Our last day in Paris has come all too quickly. We wanted to complete our shopping for souvenirs, walk down at least part of the Champs Elysees, visit the Museum of Paris and revisit the Jewish quarter in Le Marais.
Started the day with a leisurely breakfast. Anthony went out for croissants but unfortunately our local baker (left, left and right) is closed on Wednesdays so we didn’t get to sample her wares after all!
Metro to George v and the Champs Elysees Lacoste shop for polo shirts for Anthony and my father. Brief stroll only as we wanted to get back to our apartment to phone our daughters after the gym (a bonus of our accommodation has been free calls to home lines oversees so we have rung a few times).
Then out again for shopping in Le Marais and the Musee Carnavallet, an excellent museum of Paris set in stately home with many rooms and lovely inner garden courtyard. There was an excellent display of mediaeval shop signs, beautiful furnishings highlighting French decorative arts, and a well maintained knot garden.
Rather than dinner out this evening as we still lots of sorting and packing to do, we opted to buy bits and pieces from the Jewish quarter for an informal meal in our apartment. I was able to ask for things in Polish in one shop where we bought a cheese burek and a couple of different kinds of apple pie. Together with six dolmades, and second last English breakfast tea bag, we had a feast!
After more sorting or receipts and brochures, we had a final stroll towards Notre Dame Cathedral, and reflected on our wonderful week in this beautiful and vibrant city.
