Day 2 – Travel to Incheon
Incheon
Friday, 6 April 2012
Woke to sound of 5.00am alarm, startled out of a dream. It didn’t take us long to shower and pack and then head down to the lobby to check out and pick up our take away breakfast – orange juice, apple, orange, muffin and health bar. We would have preferred the buffet breakfast but time didn’t allow for this but the “bag” saved us a bit of money.
The taxi arrived on time at 5.30am. The city were quiet and the driver was in his element navigating the cross city tunnel and in and out of lanes. The ride cost us $50 to the airport, the first of many taxi rides on this holiday.
Efficient check in with Korean Air and we were through the gates. I was lured by the Merino shop and other surprises for the girls’ birthdays.
our Korean Air flight left left Sydney at 7.55am and arrived at Incheon at 5.20pm. anthony and I sat across the aisle from each other and there was lots of leg room. Watching new release movies helped the time pass – did I really watch 4 movies? “A Dangerous Method”, “Hugo”, “We bought a zoo” and “A week with Marilyn”. I’d recommend all of them.
The food was good – it’s funny how travelling makes you hungry. My “seafood diet” means that I get my meals early – my second breakfast was a seafood omelet and lunch was fish with potato gratin and broccoli. Anthony enjoyed his bibimbap a traditional Korean dish with extra hot chilli sauce.
Incheon airport is world class and quite extensive – rather than walking we had to catch a train to the immigration area! Lots of people disembarking and herding up two escalators.
Getting through passport control took a little while as everyone had their index finger prints taken and a face photo.
Our luggage arrived and we braved the 8 degrees outside for our bus transfer to the Hyatt Regency airport Hotel.
We treated ourselves to this 5 star hotel – large rooms, beautiful buffet dinner, hot bath and firm bed – recipe for a good night’s sleep.
