Day 7 – Busan
Busan
Wednesday, 11 April 2012
Breakfast must have disagreed with me – who would have thought that all those combinations wouldn’t sit well together (personally I blame Anthony’s freshly squeezed orange juice as the last straw but only after many other delicacies!)
I started to feel ill on the metro to Toseong station and the Gamcheon culture village. We caught a taxi to the village which is the site of refugee slums during the Korean war, now centre of Maze Alley project and a location for many films requiring authenticity.
Taxi down to Nampo-dong and short walk to the newly opened Lotte department store which has an observation deck on the 11th floor with 360 degree views of Busan. Busan is a port city with a thriving ship building industry. Much of it is very hilly with steep streets outide of the centre. Panoramas from the Lotte observation deck show how it is framed by the hills with houses seemingly clinging to the sides of the hills. There is that amazing juxtaposition of old and new, traditional and designer.
Headed back to the hotel early – too sick to take any more in. Sleep and a maxalon helped! Together with some healing German pastries bought at the Nonghim bakery!
Shame that our sightseeing was curtailed.
