Homeward bound

Day 32 – Homeward bound

Abu Dhabi, Sydney

Thursday, 17 October 2013

Another business class upgrade I hear you say? Yes it was offered again so we couldn’t resist completing our holiday in the same style as we started!

We checked out at 7.30am from the Grand Millennium without having breakfast and had a car take us to Abu Dhabi airport. The driver dropped us off at Ethiad’s priority check-in – how did he know? and a porter was there with a gold trolley to take our bags.

Check-in took a couple of minutes and then immigration and airport security were equally brief. A quick stop for duty free chocolate dates before we settled into Ethiad’s business club lounge for an excellent breakfast selection.

The priority boarding queue was short and our bags were inspected superficially – do you have any liquids, business class! and we were through, going around the long line queuing for economy.

This time Anthony and I are sitting together in the middle bay but with lots of space in between us – seats 11D and 11G – a bit like a king size bed!

We know the ropes now – welcome hot towel but too early for champagne so sticking with water. More Korres products including lip balm and moisturiser. Before takeoff our order was taken for lunch – a little early but make mine a French Chardonnay (Chateau De Chassagne-Montrachet Le Charmois 2008) together with some sparkling mineral water, followed by traditional Arabic mezze,

then pecan encrusted sturgeon fillet with baked potato, roasted vegetables and honey butter

and wild berry cheesecake with fresh strawberries and white chocolate for dessert.

It was all delicious but servings too large so close to breakfast.

I asked my steward to reserve a granola and yoghurt for my breakfast but he said that it shouldn’t be an issue. I will be cross if I miss out again.

Watched a movie and feeling tired, so lowered the bed and dozed off and on for a few hours. Then when we were over Australia with maybe three hours to go, decided it was time for breakfast. I had yoghurt and granola followed by scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and baby asparagus served with English muffin and hollandaise. The eggs were not heated enough but tasty and the granola was very biscuity. But a couple of English breakfast teas washed it all down.

Then more dozing.

Landed in Sydney at 7.30am, feeling refreshed. It’s been a wonderful holiday.
