Last day in Sicily

So nice to have a free day for our last day in Sicily.

After a late breakfast we caught the shuttle up to Taormina. The weather was cold and a little wet but not uncomfortable.

We followed the stations of the cross, climbing to the Madonna della Roca, a lovely little church carved into the mountain, and the Castello Saraceno perched high above Taormina. Great views right over Taormina and perspective on the Greek theatre.

We wound our way back a different way until we came to the Corso Umberto, the main thoroughfare and shops, cafes and tourists. A refreshing but expensive coffee stop at Wunderbar – two expressos for 8.40 euro!

Some souvenir shopping and then a long lazy lunch at the Ristorante Taormina with great views over the bay.  Perfect way to sum up our time in Sicily!

We had a bottle of Sicilian white wine and entree of delicious fish cakes and salade capresse.

Then Anthony had the biggest crumbed veal cutlet whilst I had lemon sole which was prepared whole and then deboned for me.

Finished the day with fond farewells to our tour group, tour leader and driver over drinks. Most people are heading home tomorrow but we are so lucky to be going on to Florence!
