We’re in Rome!
Caught our Trenitalia train to Rome this morning – only 1.30 minutes!
I was busy blogging so didn’t get to see much of the view. First class travel comes with free snacks – coffee and a chocolatey snack.
Rome termini station is huge with people coming and going, lots of retail shops and connections to the airport and other Italian cities.
We are only minutes away to our apartment for five nights on Via Filippo Turati. This is like being close to our Central station and is very multicultural and a bit grungy. We even have a large skip-like-garbage bin outside the door of the building! Roberto met us outside and took us up to the 5th floor via a small lift. Just room for the three of us and our bags! The apartment is modern and spacious with a little balcony.
Our windows face into a central courtyard with views of other apartments and their washing.
We got settled and went out and found a cafe for lunch run by Indians – simple seafood risotto and spagetti with mushrooms and tuna. Then walked back into the station and found where to purchase our Roma passes and a larger supermarket. Stocked up on some provisions and back “home” for an acclimatising cup of tea.
We went out later in the evening for an orietatating walk and found our way to the Roman forum and the Colosseum – about 20 minutes away.
