Downtown Abu Dhabi

Day 31 – Downtown Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi

Wednesday, 16 October 2013

We checked out of the resort at 11am even though we could have stayed till 12pm and were driven to the Grand Millennium Hotel which is in the centre of Abu Dhabi and next door to Al Wahda Mall.

The hotel is very busy because of the holidays with lots of family groups. But our room is very quiet on the 13th floor, and has a bath and well appointed bathroom with Elemis products, the same as those in the resort.

It was interesting to look around the mall

even though we didn’t buy anything – seeing the equivalent Australian, UK and US shops.

The most interesting was the basement level supermarket where fresh produce seems to be sourced from all over the world. Beef, lamb, naval oranges and carrots from Australia but a wealth of other produce from Oman, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Spain, South Africa, Canada, US, Holland, as well as locally produced food. The range was extensive with separate sections for each foodstuff. However, we certainly have a better quality of fresh produce at home.

Dinner at Toshi restaurant for Japanese sushi night.
