Arrived in Palermo

Short flight with budget carrier Vueling. Not much leg room but only a one hour flight and not overly full.
We had booked a taxi over the Internet. Driver met us at the arrivals’ area. Plain car much like our uber taxis. However he had no English and we had no Italian so very quiet trip to our hotel.
About a 40 minute ride because of heavy Friday traffic. We hugged the coast on our left under the shadow of a craggy nountain range on our right.
Eventually came to busy urban sprawl with low rise apartments and speciality shops on the ground floor. Palermo seems wire extensive. Hope to get our bearings tomorrow.
Lots of traffic as we got into the city area.
Arrived at our hotel for the next three nights – Mercure Palermo Centro. It is a modern tourist hotel in the middle of an authentic part of Palermo.

View from our balcony:
Just in time to settle into the hotel before our welcome briefing and meet and greet with other tour participants. Our tour organiser is Tamara who is Albanian whilst everyone else apart from us is American. The majority are retired and from the East Coast.
Welcome drinks were proseco and bar snacks – pizza, sausage rolls and bruschetta.
We were bussed to our dinner restaurant – Cin Cin.
Pretty ordinary meal but good company. We were on a table with 3 others – a lady from Boston and a couple from New York. Good to find out that not all Americans are gun lovers or like Donald Trump!
4 course dinner – aperitif of cheese, salami and tomatoey thing, primi – pasta course, then secondi – (I had swordfish) then dolci which was semi-freedom and coffee.

Pasta – Aeolian style pennette (tuna, olives, capers and tomatoes).

Swordfish with oregano and tomato sauce.

Semi-fredo.

Tired. Looking forward to a sleep. Very thin pillows!
Buona sera
