We couldn’t wait a whole year for our next holiday to Europe. So, we’ve decided to take advantage of Anthony’s end of year school holidays and booked our airfares with Cathay Pacific from Sydney to London and then Amsterdam to home, leaving just after Christmas on our 36th wedding anniversary!
It’s so much fun planing our itinerary.
- Fly to London via Hong Kong
- Pick up hire car
- A week in country Dorset visiting villages and towns with names such as Abbotsbury, Alfpuddle, Beaminster, Bere Regis, Blandford Forum, Bridport, Broadwindsor, Christchurch, Dorchester, Lyme Regis, Ludworth, Piddletown, Puddletown and Sherborne
- A few days with Anthony’s brother and his wife in Peterborough
- Drop off hire car
- Train to London
- A weekend in London at the Adria boutique hotel in Kensington
- Train to Bruges Belgium
- Stay in airbnb apartment
- Train to Cologne Germany
- Stay at Humbolt Palais Hotel in Cologne
- Train to Amsterdam Netherlands
- Stay in airbnb apartment in Amsterdam
- Fly home via Hong Kong
Dorchester is 15 minutes from Weymouth- my birth town- you have to go! Pretty little beachside town. I like Lyme Regis and Lulworth Cove too. Are you going to Corfe Castle too?

Thanks for your recommendations Roshan. There's certainly a lot to see within a short radius of where we'll be staying.

Hi Teresa
How exciting Teresa and Anthony. We loved Dorset and East Devon including Lyme Regis and all the charming smuggler's coves. Our favourite was “Beer” where the Huguenot lacemakers made the lace for Queen Victoria's wedding gown.
Don't miss out on Thomas Hardy's cottage near Dorchester- if it is open and also perhaps try a River Cottage mid winter feast if you have time.
Have a wonderful time. I look forward to reading your blog.
