Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis is a pretty seaside town made famous in Fowler’s The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Jane Austen’s Persuasian and more recently in the novel about Mary Anning, Remarkable Creatures by Tracey Chevalier.

The town is popular year round with families, tourists and dog walkers. There are also lots of great walks for trampers. But for “urban trampers” like us, there wasn’t a lot open. Unfortunately the Lyme museum was closed for renovations and most cafes don’t open till 12pm. But it was nice to walk along The Cob and eat fish and chips on the beach. We also found a great second-hand dealer on the beach where Anthony found an antique silver tea strainer and cufflinks made from scrabble pieces.

Disappointingly I’m also unable to access the images from my camera – the camera connector is only picking up images from internal storage and not the SD card.

Lyme Regis is on the border between Dorset and Devon so we decided to go home via Axminister in Devon and had tea and cake at River Cottage Canteen. The parsnip and apricot cake was nice but service was very slow.
Travelling along country roads is tiring and we sleep well at night!
