We’re in Bruges!

Train travel is wonderful and we had a very easy trip to Bruges on the Eurostar to Brussels, local train to Bruges and taxi to our airbnb apartment. It was already after 3pm when we arrived and Nina, the owner, met us at the apartment and gave us lots of information about the area and explained how to use everything. I think we will be very comfortable as the apartment is very well set up. We will only need a few basics.

So we unpacked a little and then set off to find the supermarket and one of the recommended restaurants. We are in a quiet, non-touristy part of Bruges, “the old Bruges” according to Nina which is only minutes from the city centre. It is just gorgeous!
We found a Carrefour, a small supermarket, across one of the canals and bought a few provisions. The restaurants Nina recommended weren’t open but luckily t’ Gezelleke, a local bistro serving great food and beer, was. We had a beer and Anthony had traditional Flemish stew and I had bouillabaisse. Delicious beers and food and a friendly proprietor made for a comfortable start to our time in Bruges. I finished with a black currant genever or gin. Very nice.
We’ve very much looking forward to our few days here.
